Located 17 miles west of downtown Phoenix, Goodyear boasts miles of bike paths and mountain trails ideal for great walking, hiking and biking. Dedicated to the arts, Goodyear has provided funding support to arts organizations for several years and encourages public art on buildings throughout the city. Numerous annual festivals, a wonderful Farmer's Market, and championship golf courses keep residents active. The town was settled when the Goodyear Aircraft Corporation was created in 1939. Goodyear Aircraft is now Lockheed Martin, one of the area's largest employers. Goodyear has become the retail center of the metro's West Valley, and for nearby Luke Air Force Base, the largest fighter training base in the world.

The Wigwam Outlet Stores are a terrific place to shop in Goodyear. Duncan's Family Farm features a petting area, antique tractor display, and an old fashioned farmer's market. Goodyear Rodeo Days is a popular February event, and every fall the Cool Desert Jazz Festival brings top jazz artists to Goodyear. In the spring, the Phoenix Symphony performs an evening pops concert. Goodyear also has its own 18-hole golf course and is home to the 19,000-acre Estrella Mountain Regional Park.
