About Show Low

Show Low, the commercial and tourism hub of the White Mountains, was established in 1870 when C.E. Cooley and Marion Clark decided the place was too small for both of them. They agreed to let a game of cards decide who was to move. Clark challenged Cooley, telling him, “If you can show low, you win.” Cooley turned up the deuce of clubs and said, “Show Low it is.” At an elevation of 6,400 feet, Show Low is a thriving town and a great place to live. Tourism and recreation support Show Low’s economy. The community is a regional trade and services center for southern Navajo County and portions of southern Apache County, as well as a destination and gateway for visitors going to the White Mountains.

Activities and Attractions

Boating and fishing are popular in Show Low’s many lakes and streams, and snow skiing is a favorite winter activity at nearby Sunrise Park Resort. The mild climate creates opportunities for sightseeing and outdoor recreation all year round.
