Taking Care of Ceramic Tile

Your floors take a beating every day, standing up to foot traffic from adults, kids, and even the animal members of your family. If your flooring is starting to look dirty or worn, you may want to consider replacing it. New flooring gives your home a fresh, rejuvenated look, and can even make your space feel brighter and more open. Ceramic tile is a great choice for flooring in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and more. In order to keep your ceramic tile floors looking great for years to come, it’s important to know how to care for them. Read on to learn about maintaining your ceramic tile floors.

Know the Basics

One of the most attractive features of ceramic tile flooring that it is resistant to dirt. Mud can be wiped up easily, but it’s still essential to remove dirt and grit that can scratch ceramic tile, leaving it looking dull. Glazed tile will lose its luster if it is constantly exposed to sand and grit. To prevent this, sweep and vacuum your tile on a regular basis to pick up dirt. After you do this, you can use a rag or chamois mop to clean your tile floors more thoroughly. Be sure to use a clean rag or mop and change the water frequently, as otherwise you’ll just be moving dirt around and your floors will appear cloudy.

Remove Residue

If your floors are starting to look dull and hazy, it could be because of residue left on them from cleaning. Soapy residue can alter the way your floors look, and that buildup will detract from their appearance over time. You can use a nonabrasive cleaner to remove this residue, taking care to then use clean warm water after the cleanser. Buff your tile to a shine using a clean lint-free cloth, and your home will be looking sparkling clean in no time.
